Dedicated Servers Explanation

When we speak of hosting web servers, there are three basic kinds - shared hosting servers, VPS (private virtual web servers) and dedicated servers. Shared servers accommodate plenty of customers and so the resources per user account are limited, virtual private servers give you more configuration liberty, but also affect other virtual private web servers on the hardware node if utilized imprudently, and dedicated servers offer you the independence to do everything you choose without meddling with anyone else.

Why would you require a dedicated servers?

Dedicated servers are usually much more expensive than shared hosting web servers or VPSs. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The answer is rather simple. If your firm has a resource-consuming web site, or just has very exact server architecture requirements, the most reasonable choice would be a dedicated servers. For someone who is willing to invest in safety and stability, the bigger price is of no concern. You have complete server root access and can use 100% of the web hosting server's resources without anyone else availing of these resources and messing with your web sites.

Hardware specs

The majority of website hosting service providers, including us at Hepsia, offer different hardware configurations you can choose from based on your demands. The configurations include different varieties of microprocessors, a different amount of cores, different RAM memory and server hard disk sizes and different monthly bandwidth quotas. You can pick a web hosting Control Panel, which is handy software if you want to use the dedicated servers for web hosting purposes only and choose not to use an SSH console for all the modifications you will be making. We offer 3 kinds of web hosting Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The hosting Control Panel of your choice

If you are a self-assured Linux user (our servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could manage your dedicated servers through an SSH client only. That, however, could be awkward, especially if you decide to give root-level access to somebody else who has less technical knowledge than yourself. That is why having Control Panel software installed is a splendid idea. The Hepsia hosting CP graphical user interface that we offer does not give you full server root privileges and is mostly suitable for someone who owns many online portals that absorb lots of system resources, but wants to manage the web sites, databases and mailbox accounts via a user-friendly web hosting Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting CPs, on the other hand, grant complete root-level access and have 3 access levels - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell hosting plans instead of using the dedicated servers only for yourself, you should select one of these two.

Web server monitoring and backup procedures

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated servers and of backing it up. In case of a problem with your web hosting server, like an unresponsive Apache or a downtime, it is advisable to have some kind of monitoring system activated. Here at Hepsia the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated servers too. Backups are also an additional option - the web hosting solutions provider offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could select a kind of RAID that would permit you to keep the same data on 2 hard disks as a precaution in case of a server hard disk failure, or in case someone whom you have given access erases something by accident.
